RS Net Newsletter March 2013

RS Net logo - RS stands for Renton Solutions Network- a web development business in Adelaide South Australia.

Merv and I are trying to send one of these information emails out each month. Some of them will be based on questions asked by clients, the answers to which we feel will benefit others.

This is one of those!

How can I get more visitors to my web site?

Everyone needs to look at their site critically. Here are some questions to ask yourself.

  • Is the content current?
If not, are you selling out of production goods, old fashioned styles - does it sell your business short?
  • Is the content likely to be helpful to users or is it too general, too poorly written, or gibberish?
Subtitles and bullet points break up the text so information can be skimmed.
  • Have I used the Metatag module on each page so search engines can pick up what the page is about?
  • Are the images annotated?
If your site does not have a place at the bottom of the single section for annotations about your image, then perhaps you should look at upgrading. Run your mouse over the RS logo above.
If it didn't show in this newsletter context - this is what I was able to add to it - RS Net logo - RS stands for Renton Solutions Network- a web development business in Adelaide South Australia. Look how much more I was able to tell the search engines!
A page of pictures with no explanation does not cut the mustard with a search engine - they only see a block called image.
If you have hover text (annotations) explaining your images, you are putting more words on the page for search engines to find without making the page cluttered.
  • Does the page provide substantial value when compared to other pages in search results?
  • Does the page have an excessive amount of ads that distract from or interfere with the main content?
  • Would you trust the content?
  • Would you be comfortable giving your credit card information to the site?

These are all good questions, and in answering them and editing your pages as a result is one way to get more visitors.

At RS Net we are to help you. There are several answers to these questions.

Extra Training
Bring along your changes to a training session and we will train you to do them - a great use of your time.

I don't know what to do! I don't know how to do it! I'm too far away from the RS Net people to get help!

We can dial in via Team Viewer 7 which you can download for free from, and via speaker phone can teach you all the tricks you need to make your changes. At the end of the session you have learned how to do it and updated your site at the same time.

I don't know enough about it.
OK. Make a list of the word phrases you want to be found by. Look at your text. Can you find those words together? Did you add them to the metatags at the top of the page? Were they even mentioned on your pages?
